Game Guide

Welcome!

The Dragon game is a strategic board game for adults and children. The objective of the game is to attack and slay the opponent's dragon. The game requires at least two players.

Objective

The dragon is built up by a number of game pieces, that can be moved around by complying to simple game rules. When you hit an opponent's piece, the piece changes color, thus your dragon is becoming one piece larger and the opponent’s, one piece shorter.

The game is over when the opponent’s heart piece is captured or the heart piece is the only remaining piece left – a dragon cannot live without the heart and the heart cannot beat without the body.

Opening formation

The dragon moves

A dragon consists of game pieces of the same color placed on squares next to each other - either in a straight line or diagonally.

You move the dragon by select one piece from one end of the dragon and move it to the other end and place it in contact with the very last piece of your dragon.

In this move the selected piece must pass all the other pieces in the dragon one time and one time only. In the opening move the black dragon will have 14 possible moves.

Grows

The dragon becomes larger by hitting the opponent's pieces one at a time. This is done by moving one piece from one end of your dragon and through one - and only one - of the opponent's pieces. When you hit an opponent's piece, the piece changes color, thus your dragon is becoming one piece larger and the opponent’s, one piece shorter.

E.g. a piece can be hit like this...

or like this...

The dragon can only attack in a straight line - vertical or horizontal. Not diagonally.

Imagine you are riding on the backside of the dragon. When you are attacking an opponent, you could either choose to ride right through the opponent to an empty space straight on the other side or in the very last second take a sharp 90 degree Turn, to hit a piece perpendicular to your attack point.

Wining the game

The game is over when the opponent is heart piece is captured or the heart piece is the only remaining piece left – the dragon cannot live without the heart and the heart cannot beat without the body. E.g white can win like this..

Tips!

The opponent's heart piece is in danger of being hit when...

* ... your opponent doesn't realize that it is or will be in danger.

* ... your opponent is aware that it is in danger - but is unable to do anything about it. e.g. by threatening the heart piece in the middle of a straight dragon - when the opponent is unable to reach it and protect it in the next move.

* ... it is separated from the rest of the dragon and forcing it to the edge of the board. Here it has only a few options for escape!

The split...

In the example below, black hits the center white piece and the white dragon is split into two dragons.

e.g. this is one way the dragon can be split.

Both white dragons can move individually and can attack black as long as they consist of a minimum of two pieces.

Single pieces can do nothing but try to re-join the rest of the dragon

The multi-headed ...

If white capture the black piece, as shown below, black's dragon gets two end-points. That known as a multi-headed dragon.

how a multi-headed dragon could be made.

Only if the dragon has multiple heads and only if it is positioned in such a way that it is impossible to pass through all the pieces, are you allowed to skip some of the pieces when moving a piece from one end to the other.

In the example above black have these options

A multi-headed dragon has multiple attack options and is therefore more threatening. It is very difficult to get and maintain a multi-headed dragon, as it normally will return to being a one-headed dragon in the following move.

Enjoy!
